LINCOLN UNIVERSITY, PA – A last-second shot by Chowan's Quinton McDuffie was blocked by Kenny Sharpe, and Lincoln University (PA) survived with a 64-63 victory over the Hawks on Thursday.  Lincoln moves to 11-13 overall (6-7 CIAA, 4-3 North).  Chowan falls to 7-18 (1-12 CIAA, 1-6 North).

In a hectic last minute and change of play, Chowan's Kyree Bethel drained a three to give the Hawks a 61-59 lead.  Lincoln's Denzel Mooney then sank two free throws to tie the game at 61 with 53 seconds left to play.  After a called timeout, Chris Williams nailed a jumper to put Chowan back up by two, but Mooney came right back with a three pointer to give LUP a 64-63 lead with just 16 ticks on the clock.

Chowan called another timeout to set up a last-second shot, but McDuffie could not get it off over the out-stretched arms of Sharpe.

Mark McGlone scored a career-high 17 points to lead Chowan, while McDuffie added 11.  Bethel tallied 10 points, while Williams scored nine and grabbed a team-high seven rebounds.

Four Lions reached double figures, led by an outstanding game from Sharpe.  To go along with his game-saving blocked shot, he scored 22 points, pulled down 10 rebounds, and dished out six assists – all game highs.  George Jackson (15), Jai Kellman (11), and Mooney (10) also scored in double figures.

Statistically, the game was very even, except for one big category: three pointers.  Lincoln connected on 10 treys, while Chowan made five.  Chowan out-shot Lincoln 51.0% to 46.2%, and made more free throws, but the Lions' deep-shooting proved to be a difference in the game.

Lincoln held a slight rebounding advantage (28-27), but Chowan out-scored Lincoln in the paint 28-20.

Greg Alston made his only basket of the game, a three pointer, at the 8:07 mark of the first half to give Chowan a 19-13 lead.  A 13-0 run by the Lions as the first half wound down gave them a six point lead with two minutes left.  Mark Anthony Buright drained a three as time expired to send the Hawks into halftime down 29-25.

An early 10-0 Lincoln run in the second half gave the Lions a 41-35 lead, but Chowan answered with 16-9 spurt to take a 51-50 lead with 6:41 remaining in the contest.  From there, neither team led by more than three points.

Seven of Chowan's last eight games have been decided by 10 points or less.

Chowan will finish their road swing on Saturday, February 11th, at rival Elizabeth City State University.  Tip-off is set for 7:30pm.
