Box Score 2 PEMBROKE, NC - The Chowan University softball team fell to 2-10 on the year after dropping a doubleheader to UNC-Pembroke Saturday afternoon. The Hawks dropped a close first game with a final of 7-5 but lost the nightcap 11-1 in five innings. Chowan out hit the Braves in the first game 10-9 but gave up five runs in the first inning to get behind early. It was a deficit they eventually could not overcome. UNC-Pembroke used 13 hits and held the Hawks to two hits in the second game.
The Hawks jumped out to an early 2-0 lead after
Allie Kolezynski and
Alex Allen scored on back to back bases loaded walks drawn by
Liz Hipple and
Kayla Brady. But the Braves used their half of the inning to score five early runs. They added two more in the 5th inning. Both Kolezynski and Allen led the Hawks at the plate. Kolezynski was 3-5 with three runs scored and Allen was 2-3 with two runs scored.
Lacey Wildeboer also collected two hits in the game.
Alora Lincoln gave up four earned runs and scattered nine hits for the loss on the mound. She also struck out two batters.
UNCP scored 11 runs in the 2nd and 3rd innings to jump on top of the Hawks in the night cap.
Leigh Ward and
Megan Bass collected the Hawks lone hits in the game. Kolezynski pitched the loss on the mound after throwing 1.2 innings. She gave up seven runs on seven hits. Lincoln came in to close the game out.
The Hawks will travel to Virginia State University on February 28th in their next outing.
