Hawks Snap Skid, Beat VSU to End Season

Box Score MURFREESBORO - The Chowan University men's basketball team ended a six-game losing skid after a 61-49 win over Virginia State University Saturday night. The Trojans came into the game on a five-game win streak but were unable to convert in the second half and the Hawks pulled out the decisive win. Chowan ends the season at 8-20 overall and 2-14 in the CIAA. The Hawks finished in 6th place in the CIAA North Division with a 2-8 divisional record. They will play Tuesday night at the CIAA Tournament in Charlotte.

After a back and forth first half, the Hawks took a narrow 26-24 lead into the halftime period. VSU struggled in the second half while Chowan hit 52% of shots from the floor and took control of the game. They never lost their lead in the second half and went on to the eleven point win.

Quinton McDuffie paced the Hawks and led all scorers in the game with 16 points. McDuffie also grabbed seven boards and helped the Hawks on the glass all night. The Hawks out rebounded the Trojans 35 to 28 and had double digit offensive rebounds with 13.

Chris Williams added 11 points on a 5-7 shooting performance while teammate Greg Alston dished out eight assists and had seven boards.

Chowan will face the #5 seed out of the South Division to open the CIAA Tournament on Tuesday night. Tournament pairings will be released by the CIAA Office on Sunday.
