ELIZABETH CITY, NC – A near perfect night from the floor by Ransheda Jennings could not propel Chowan past arch-rival Elizabeth City State on Saturday, as the Lady Vikings won 69-58.  Jennings shot 11-13 from the floor, leading to a team-high 24 points.  She also grabbed a team-high seven rebounds.

Chowan (9-15, 4-10 CIAA, 2-6 North) made just one of 14 three-point attempts for the game, but shot 23-55 (41.8%) from two-point territory.  The Hawks out-scored Elizabeth City State (13-11, 7-7 CIAA, 4-4 North) in the paint 40-22, but the Lady Vikings had five more rebounds for the game than did Chowan.

Danielle Coleman notched 14 points, marking a season high for her.  She pulled down six rebounds.  Summer Curtis scored five points and blocked one shot.

DeAudra Brown scored a career high 26 points for ECSU on 10-15 shooting.  She drained all three of her three-point attempts.  Stephanie Harper recorded a double-double with 18 points and 10 rebounds, and Jasmine Walker tallied 11 points.

A 10-2 Lady Viking run midway through the first half gave them an 18-8 lead with 10:31 left to play.  Chowan closed that deficit to two at 27-25 following an and-one by Curtis at the 3:22 mark.  Chowan only took one more shot, though, the rest of the half, leading to a 34-28 halftime deficit.

ECSU began the second half on an 11-4 run, going up 45-32 four minutes into the half.  Chowan then responded in a big way, going on a 12-0 run over a span of three minutes, 24 seconds to tie the game at 47 with just over nine minutes to play.

The Hawks tied the game once more, but could never take the lead.  Elizabeth City State went on a 7-0 run late in the game to seal the victory.

Chowan will return home on Monday, February 13th, when they host CIAA North foe Virginia Union University for a 5:30 pm tip-off.  That game will be the annual “Play4Kay” game for cancer research and awareness.  All fans are encouraged to wear pink to the game and help the Play4Kay cause.
