Box Score 2 MURFREESBORO - The Chowan University softball team fell to 2-6 on the year after dropping an afternoon doubleheader to Anderson University. The Trojans edged the Hawks in a close battle with a final score of 6-5. Errors proved to be costly for Chowan in the nightcap. The team committed six errors, which accounted for seven unearned runs in the 15-2 loss. The Hawks will hit the field again next Saturday to host West Chester University in a 12:00pm doubleheader.
Chowan belted out eight hits in the first game but got down early in the game when Anderson scored five runs in their first two at-bats. Chowan bounced back in the next three at-bats. Freshman catcher Jordan Peay drove in three runs in the game, including a three run home run in the third inning to cut the lead to 5-3. They picked up a run in the fourth and then tied the game in the 5th inning on an infield single by
Liz Hipple. Anderson got their winning run in the 6th inning and held on the lead for the 6-5 win.
Amber Matthews was 2-2 with two runs scores in the game while Peay finished 2-3 with three RBI's.
Alora Lincoln started the game, tossing two innings. She gave up five runs on eight hits and struck out two batters.
Allie Kolezynski gave up a run in relief to pick up the loss after the game was tied at 5-5.
Anderson pounded out 15 hits and held the Hawks to four hits in the 15-2 nightcap game.
Chowan (2-6) will host Mercyhurst University in thier next outing on February 18th. Game time for the nonconference doubleheader is 12:00pm.
