Johnson C. Smith Cruises to 95-69 Victory Over Chowan

CHARLOTTE, NC – Rickey Lamb scored a career-high 16 points, including 14 in the second half, but Chowan fell to Johnson C. Smith 95-69 on Wednesday.  The Hawks fall to 6-7 overall, and 0-1 in CIAA play.  JCSU is now 6-5 (1-0 CIAA).
 
Lamb connected on seven of nine shots and grabbed seven rebounds in just 15 minutes of play.  Quinton McDuffie and Kyree Bethel each tallied 14 points for Chowan.  All of Bethel's points came in the first half, and McDuffie also pulled down seven rebounds.
 
Greg Alston had four assists and a team-high four steals, while Mark McGlone dished out five assists.
 
The Golden Bulls jumped out to a 10-3 lead five minutes into the contest, but a Bethel layup cut that lead to 11-8 with 13:23 showing on the clock.  JCSU extended their lead to 21-12 following a Trevin Parks and-one, but a Chris Williams layup brought the Hawks right back to 21-17.
 
Back-to-back layups by McDuffie and McGlone brought the score to 27-24 JCSU with 3:43 remaining in the first half, and it looked as if Chowan was going to stay with the Golden Bulls.  JCSU, however, drained their next four shots from three-point territory, aiding a 14-2 run to go up 41-26.
 
The Golden Bulls' momentum continued into the second half, where they began on a 10-2 run to open a 51-32 cushion.  McGlone later made two free throws to cut the deficit to 17, but the Hawks would not get any closer.
 
Midway through the half, JCSU used a 16-3 spurt to take an 83-49 lead and seize control of the game.  Chowan would score the final 11 points of the game, and held JCSU scoreless over the final 3:28.
 
Chowan had 21 second chance points, to 19 for JCSU.  The Hawks' bench outscored the Golden Bulls' subs 45-16.  Johnson C. Smith, who never trailed, scored 36 points off turnovers, compared to just nine for Chowan.
 
Phillip Wood led JCSU with 24 points on 8-11 shooting.  Reigning CIAA Player of the Year Trevin Parks netted 22 points.  Robert Williams (15) and Delonta Boyd (10) also reached double figures for JCSU.
 
Chowan will travel to Fayetteville State on Saturday, January 7th for a 7:30pm tip-off.
