MURFREESBORO – After a mild health emergency dealing with Head Coach Dan DeRose, Chowan out-scored Lincoln University (PA) 6-2.  Unfortunately, the Hawks' momentum simply ran out of time, as LUP defeated Chowan 51-48 on Monday.

“Over those last three minutes (after DeRose's incident), our guys really wanted to win for coach, but we fell just short,” said Assistant Coach Kenyan Weaks.  “Right now, we just have to get him back and get better as a team.”

Lincoln (8-11, 3-5 CIAA, 1-1 North) made six of 13 three point attempts (46.2%), while Chowan connected on just three of 16 (18.8%).

Chris Williams led Chowan (6-14, 0-8 CIAA, 0-2 North) with 16 points and 14 rebounds, while playing all 40 minutes.  Quinton McDuffie scored nine points and grabbed seven rebounds, and Greg Alston dished out a game-high six assists.

The majority of the first half was a back-and-forth affair, with Chowan leading by only as much as four.  Lincoln took their first lead of the game with 8:38 on the clock following two Jai Kellman free throws.  Kellman led Lincoln with 15 points.

The Lions out-scored Chowan 10-3 over the final 7:10 of the first half, to take a 33-25 lead into halftime.

An early 8-0 run by the Hawks brought them within three (36-33) with 15:18 remaining in the game.  Lincoln then responded right back with an 8-0 run of their own to regain an 11 point lead.

Two Mark McGlone free throws brought the Hawks within four with 5:18 to play, but Lincoln's Denzel Mooney drained a three to make the score 49-42 with just over four minutes to play.

Derrick Washington scored 13 for the Lions, and Mooney added ten points.

Chowan will return to action on Thursday, January 26th, when they host CIAA North rival Elizabeth City State University at 7:30pm
