Box Score WILSON, NC – The Chowan University volleyball team won its eighth straight match tonight, as they downed the Barton College Lady Bulldogs in four games, 25-23, 18-25, 28-26, 25-12. The Hawks move to 13-3 on the year, while Barton is now 5-8.
The opening game was tightly contested throughout, with Chowan taking the biggest lead of the game at 16-12. The Lady Bulldogs quickly responded, though, and took a 19-18 lead shortly after. Chowan would not go away, and a kill by
Karina Monroe gave the Hawks the game, 25-23. Monroe would finish the night with 14 kills.
The second game was all Lady Bulldogs, as they opened up an early 11-4 lead. Chowan brought the score within three at 15-12, but did not get any closer.
The third game was just as close as the first. Five straight Barton points gave them a 19-13 advantage for the biggest lead of the game. Much like the first game, the Hawks stormed back and tied the game at 22. A
Megan Sawyer service ace capped the comeback and sealed the game for Chowan.
Chowan completely dominated the fourth and final game. After Barton scored the first point of the game, Chowan scored 15 of the next 17 points to pull away. Barton never got within nine points, and Chowan won easily, 25-12.
Callie Armistead, Chowan's all-time leader in assists, had 30 tonight.
Tori Lewis led the Hawks with 22 kills and also had 17 digs.
Karina Monroe had three blocks to go along with her 14 kills.
Monica Ruffin tallied a team-high 23 digs.
Chowan will host Lincoln University (PA) and the University of the District of Columbia in a tri-match on Saturday, October 1
