MURFREESBORO, NC – The Chowan University Volleyball team maintained their perfect CIAA record with a sweep of Elizabeth City State University on Wednesday. Chowan won by scores of 25-22, 25-20, 25-14. The Hawks are now 8-0 in CIAA play and 12-3 overall. The Lady Vikings fall to 7-9 overall and 5-2 in the CIAA.

 

Chowan opened the match strong, pulling out to a quick 8-3 lead in the opening game. The Hawks maintained the lead throughout the game, and eventually led 20-13. The Lady Vikings then went on a 6-1 run to cut the Hawks lead to 21-19. An ace by ECSU made the score even at 22, but Chowan scored the final three points to take the first set.

 

Early in the second game, it appeared that the Lady Vikings were going to make things interesting, taking a 15-12 lead. However, a Tori Lewis kill gave the Hawks a 19-18 advantage, and it was all Chowan from there as they won 25-20.

 

After Elizabeth City State jumped out to an early 7-4 lead in the third game, the Hawks turned it on and scored 12 of the next 14 points to lead 16-9. The Lady Vikings never made it close from there, and Chowan took the final game 25-14.

 

Callie Armistead led the Hawks with 33 assists and also has two service aces. Tori Lewis had a monster game with 16 kills and 13 digs. Karina Monroe hit .700 with seven kills. The Hawks are off until next Wednesday, September 28^th, when they travel to Barton College. Game time is set for 7:00pm.
