MURFREESBORO – Despite a season-high 15 shots, the Chowan University Men's Soccer team fell to visiting Salem International University on Friday, 3-1. Chowan moves to 0-4 on the season, while the Tigers are now 1-3.
Defense dominated the first period of play, but SIU's Michael Galarza found the back of the net in the 33
rd minute to put the Tigers up 1-0. That score would remain the same until halftime. Andres Alejandre of Salem International would make the score 2-0 with a goal in the 65
th minute. Chowan came right back with a goal in the 73
rd minute to cut the lead in half.
Adam Smith nailed the goal off a
Cody Coerse assist. Only a minute later, however, the Tigers scored their third and final goal to put the game out of reach.
Smith and
Caleb Blaize each recorded three shots for Chowan.
Ethan Phelps made 10 saves in goal. The Hawks return to action next Wednesday, September 21
st when they host Methodist University at 4:00pm.
