Box Score 2 MURFREESBORO – Behind strong pitching performances by
John DesChamps and
Brett Garrett, the Chowan University baseball team extended their win streak to nine games with a pair of victories over Shaw University, 9-0 and 6-0. The Hawks now stand at 23-14 overall, and 19-3 in CIAA play. The Bears fall to 14-26 overall, 9-15 in the CIAA.
John DesChamps (4-4) gave the Hawks another strong outing on the mound, pitching a complete-game four hitter. He struck out six batters and issued one walk.
Brett Overton drove in
Brandon Mack in the third inning to open the scoring and give Chowan a 1-0 lead.
Adam Capps scored on a
William Ward single in the fourth inning to extend the lead to 2-0.
Ryan Moore broke the game open in the fifth inning by belting his fifth home run of the season to take a 5-0 advantage.
The Hawks added four runs in the sixth inning to make the score 9-0. Chowan was helped in the inning by three walks and a two-RBI double by
Justin Bagbey.
Ryan Moore drove in a team-high four runs and scored one run himself.
Brandon Mack went 2-2 at the plate and scored three runs.
Brett Garrett (7-3) struck out 10 batters in game two, while allowing five hits in a complete-game shutout.
Chowan will travel to Pasquotank Country High School tomorrow to take on CIAA foe Elizabeth City State University at 1:00pm.
