John Morris pitched a no-hitter in game one, and Chowan hit eight total home runs, in a sweep of St. Paul's College on Thursday afternoon. The Hawks have now won seven consecutive games and own a 21-14 record (17-3 CIAA). St. Paul's falls to 0-24 (0-24 CIAA).
John Morris (3-0) struck out nine Tigers' batters, walked none, and did not allow a hit in 7.0 innings pitched in game one. Chowan jumped out to an early 3-0 lead in the first inning behind a three-run home run by
Adam Capps.
The Hawks added six runs in each the fourth and fifth innings.
Justin Bagbey hit his first home run of the day in the fifth, driving in three runs.
Brett Overton and
Adam Capps each had two RBI in the fourth inning.
Bagbey connected for home run number two in the top of the seventh inning.
Brandon Mack closed the scoring with two RBI later in the same inning.
Chowan benefitted from nine Tigers' errors in the game.
Justin Bagbey drove in six runs while going 3-4 from the plate.
Adam Capps drove in five and scored one run.
Three Chowan pitchers nearly matched Morris' performance on the mound in game two.
Ryan Bradshaw went 4.0 innings, allowing one hit.
Blake Leebrick threw two innings in relief and
William Ward threw one inning. Neither Leebrick nor Ward gave up a hit.
After three innings, Chowan held a 10-1 advantage.
Josh Catalano hit home runs in both the second and third innings.
Ryan Moore hit his fourth home run of the season in the second.
Justin Bagbey tallied his third home run of the day in the third inning.
Chowan will host Shaw University this Saturday, April 9th in a CIAA doubleheader. First pitch is set for 1:00pm.
