Box Score 2 LEXINGTON, NC – Mars Hill College held Chowan University to ten hits in a non-conference sweep of the Hawks on Sunday. The Lions took game one 1-0, and the nightcap 6-2. Chowan falls to 23-17 on the season, while Mars Hill improves to 26-11.
Offense was hard to come by in game one for both teams. A combined three hits were produced in the first three innings of the game. Mars Hill scored the only run of the game in the fourth inning, when Jade Bullins drove in Ashley Seawell with a single.
The Hawks managed just one more hit from that point on, a double by
Megan Wade in the seventh inning. She could not score, however, as Chowan fell 1-0.
Christie Wright went the distance for Chowan. She allowed just five hits and one run, while striking out three batters.
Mars Hill struck early in game two, scoring two runs in the first inning. Chowan responded, however, as
Liz Sill drove in
Liz Hipple in the second inning with a double. Sill would finish the game going 2-3 from the plate with the one RBI.
The Hawks tied the game at two in the top of the fourth inning when
Katie Duncan scored on an
Allie Kolezynski single. The Lions came back with a run of their own in the home half of the fourth to regain the lead, 3-2.
MHC added three runs in the sixth inning to take a 6-2 advantage, and held on from there to gain the sweep.
Chowan will travel to Lawrenceville, VA tomorrow to take on CIAA opponent St. Paul's College. The doubleheader is scheduled to begin at 1:00pm.
