Gorman Shines as Hawks Sweep West Liberty

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 MURFREESBORO - Chowan's Tricia Gorman collected four hits in five at-bats, including two homeruns and five RBI in a doubleheader sweep of West Liberty University this afternoon. Chowan won with game scores of 3-1 and 11-3 to even their overall record at 10-10. Chowan used a balanced effort of both pitching and offense to help propel them into double digit wins on the season.

The Hawks jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in game one with Fahren Munro and Gorman crossing the plate in the first inning. They added an insurance run in the bottom of the 5th inning to take the win 3-1. Lacey Wildeboer pitched the win, her second of the season. She scattered three hits over seven innings and struck out five Hilltopper batters. Gorman led the Hawks with two hits.

Gorman hit a solo homerun in the bottom of the first inning and then turned around in her next at-bat with a bases loaded homerun to give her team a 7-0 lead after two innings. The Hawks rolled to an 11-3 win behind their bats as they collected 12 hits in game two. Munro was 2-3 with two runs scored and an RBI while Gorman was 2-2 with five RBI and two homeruns. Shelby Pendleton was 1-1 with two runs knocked in.

Allie Kolezynski (3-4) picked up the win on the mound after throwing five innings. She gave up three runs on six hits and struck out seven batters.

The Hawks will travel to Raleigh this weekend for the CIAA Softball Round Up at Walnut Creek.
