WEST CHESTER, PA – The Chowan University Softball team lost a pair of road games to West Chester University on Saturday. The Golden Rams (15-11) won the opener 2-0 and the nightcap 10-2 (five innings). The Hawks fall to 19-15 on the year following the losses.

In game one, neither team got much going offensively, as there were only a combined three hits over the first three innings. West Chester got on the board in the fourth inning when Nicole Cruts belted a home run over the left field wall.

The Golden Rams added another home run in the fifth inning to take a 2-0 advantage. That lead would hold, as the Hawks could not generate any offense late in the game.

Mindy Byrd went 2-3 for Chowan, while Allie Kolezynski, Fahren Munro, and Liz Sill collected one hit apiece. Munro also stole a base for the Hawks. Christie Wright suffered the loss, giving up two runs (2 earned) off 5 hits and striking out 10 batters.

West Chester used huge offensive outputs in the second and third innings to come away with a 10-2 victory in the nightcap. The Golden Rams scored five runs in each of those innings.

Chowan scored two runs in the top of the fourth inning to close the gap to 10-2. Brooke Owen drove in those two runs with a single to left field, but it would not be enough.

Christie Wright (6-6) pitched 2.0 innings, giving up five runs (four earned) off two hits. Brenna Thomas went 1-1 at the plate for the Hawks and scored one run.

Chowan will travel to Bowie State University tomorrow to take on the Lady Bulldogs in a CIAA doubleheader. First pitch is scheduled for 12:00pm.
