Gorman, Wright Lead Chowan to Sweep of ECSU

MURFREESBORO – A big offensive day from Senior Tricia Gorman and an outstanding pitching performance from Christie Wright led Chowan to a sweep of visiting Elizabeth City State University on Thursday. The Hawks took game one 12-4 and the nightcap 8-0. Chowan moves to 18-12 overall and 9-1 in CIAA play. With the loss, the Lady Vikings fall to 6-8 overall and 6-5 in the CIAA.
 
Chowan struck early and often in game one, as they plated the first four batters of the game to take a 4-0 lead after one inning. Tricia Gorman drove in two runs with a single in the inning. Mindy Byrd drove in one of Chowan's three runs in the second inning with a triple down the right field line. 
 
The Hawks added three more runs in the third to take a 10-0 advantage. Elizabeth City State got on the board in the top of the fourth with two runs. They added two more in the fifth to close the gap to 10-4, but Chowan was able to put together three singles in the home half of the inning to score two runs and close the game.
 
Allie Kolezynski and Tricia Gorman each had three hits for Chowan. Kolezynski and Fahren Munro scored three runs apiece. Gorman tallied a team-high five RBI. Munro stole three bases and remains perfect on the year in stolen base attempts.
 
Allie Kolezynski picked up the win for Chowan, her seventh on the season. She pitched all five innings, giving up two earned runs off four hits. 
 
The Hawks again jumped out to an early lead in game number two.  Four runs in the second inning gave them a 6-0 lead. Tricia Gorman once again came through offensively with a two-RBI single in the inning. Chowan also benefitted from three Lady Viking errors in the frame. 
 
Chowan added one run in the third and fourth innings to give them an 8-0 advantage. Christie Wright would do the rest, pitching a complete game one-hitter. ECSU did not have a base runner until the fifth inning. Wright struck out seven and walked one in the shutout victory.
 
Tricia Gorman led Chowan with four RBI, while going 2-3 at the plate. Fahren Munro went 2-3, stole one base, and scored three runs. Six different Hawks scored runs in game two. 
 
Chowan celebrated Senior Day between games. Seniors Mindy Byrd, Katie Duncan, Tricia Gorman, and Brooke Owen were honored. The Hawks will return to action on Tuesday, March 21, when they host West Virginia State University at 2:00pm.
