Chowan to Host Virginia State University in CIAA Basketball Action on Saturday

Chowan will host Virginia State this Saturday
MURFREESBORO – The Chowan Men's and Women's Basketball teams will host Virginia State University on Saturday, February 5th in CIAA North action. The Women's tip-off is scheduled for 2:00pm, with the men to follow at 4:00pm in the Helms Center.
 
The Chowan Women look to remain unbeaten in CIAA North play, as they currently sit alone in first place with a 5-0 divisional record. Overall, the Hawks are 10-9, with a 7-4 CIAA record.  Chowan is currently on a five game winning streak, and has won four of their last five home games. The Hawks are coming off a 60-40 victory over Saint Paul's College on Monday night. Talaya Lynch scored a game high 21 points, while shooting 3-7 from three point range. Recently named HSRN National Player of the Week and CIAA Player of the Week Ransheda Jennings chipped in with 12 points and Brittany Nicholson added 10. Virginia State (11-6 overall, 5-4 CIAA, 2-2 North) defeated Lincoln University (PA) on Thursday, 64-46. Rhon'Neisha Taylor scored 15 points for the Lady Trojans.
 
On the Men's side, the Hawks are coming off their first CIAA victory of the season. They enter tonight's game at 2-17 overall (1-10 CIAA, 1-4 North). They defeated Saint Paul's College 87-71 on Monday night. Six Chowan players scored in double figures in the win. Quinton McDuffie led the way with 18 points, while Deandre Tyree had game highs with 13 rebounds and 5 blocks. The Trojans are coming off a 67-54 victory over Lincoln University (PA) on Thursday night. D'Angelo Johnson led the VSU attack with 18 points and 9 rebounds.
