Chowan Baseball Falls to St. Andrews 9-5

LAURINBURG, VA – The Chowan Baseball team fell to host St. Andrews College 9-5 on Wednesday night. The Hawks now stand at 1-4 on the short season, while St. Andrews improves to 2-4 on the year.
 
Brett Overton scored in the top of the first to give Chowan an early 1-0 lead, but the Knights responded with seven straight runs over the next four innings. Thomas Bird drove in two runs in the top half of the sixth to cut the deficit to 7-3. Chowan added two more runs in the top of the ninth, but the comeback fell short.
 
William Ward went 2-4 at the dish to pace the Hawks. Thomas Bird had a team high two RBI. The Knights' Joe McCary took the win while pitching four innings of shutout baseball. Brett Garrett suffered the loss for Chowan. He gave up seven runs and struck out three.
 
Chowan will return to action this Saturday and Sunday as they host the Warriors from East Stroudsburg University in back-to-back doubleheaders. First pitch is set for 12:00 noon both days.
