Box Score 2 MURFREESBORO - The Chowan University softball team picked up their first win of the season after splitting a twinbill with Anderson University. Anderson toppled the Hawks 14-4 in the first game of the doubleheader but Chowan bounced back with a 3-2 win in the nightcap.
Christie Wright pitched the 3-2 win, holding off Anderson late in the game. Chowan (1-7) was held to six hits in the first game and gave up 13 hits over five innings of play. Wright held Anderson to three hits for her first season win.
Allie Kolezynski started the first game for Chowan on the mound, giving up six runs on four hits over 2.1 innings pitched.
Amber Matthews came in behind Kolezynski to give up eight runs on nine hits.
Fahren Munro was 2-2 at the plate with a run scored while
Tricia Gorman and
Megan Wade were both 1-3. Wade accounted for an RBI and a run scored in the game.
Wright went the distance in the 3-2 nightcap win. She struck out five batters and scattered three hits over seven innings for the win. Chowan got on the board early with single runs in both the first and second innings. Anderson knotted the game with two runs of their own in the third inning.
Alex Allen singled in
Brooke Owen in the sixth inning to give Chowan the go ahead run. Wright and the Chowan defense held Anderson off for their first season win.
Chowan improves to 1-7 on the year and will host Mercyhurst College in a doubleheader on Sunday at 12:00pm.
