Box Score MURFREESBORO – The Chowan Hawks Men's Basketball team won their third game in their last four after a 73-61 victory over Lincoln University (PA) Thursday night. Chowan is now 4-18 overall (3-11 CIAA, 3-5 North). With the loss, Lincoln falls to 2-19 overall (1-13 CIAA, 1-7 North).
On his senior night,
Charles Rhodes gave the Hawks an early 7-5 advantage with a three pointer 4:32 into the contest. Two
Quinton McDuffie free throws at the 10:05 mark gave Chowan a 19-13 lead. Lincoln responded with a 6-1 run over the next 2:04 to cut the Hawk lead to one.
A Kamaal Mattavous three with 3:28 remaining in the half set the score at 28-27 Chowan. The Hawk defense held Lincoln to only two points the rest of the half, at they finished on an 8-2 run to take a 36-29 advantage into intermission.
Chowan shot 58.3% from the field in the first half and forced 10 Lion turnovers. The Hawks outscored Lincoln 20-8 in the paint and 16-7 off the bench in the first half.
The Hawks scored six of the first eight points of the second half, opening up a 42-31 lead with 17:04 remaining in the half. Two Eugene Smith free throws brought the score to 45-37 Chowan at the 15:00 mark.
Over the next 3:43, Chowan went on a 14-0 run, which included three straight
Mark Brown treys. Chowan equaled their largest lead of the game when
Deandre Tyree nailed a free throw at the 7:34 to make the score 65-43. Lincoln ended the game on a 10-3 run over the final three minutes, but it was too little too little.
Mark Brown led Chowan with 19 points, including 5-7 shooting from three point range.
Deandre Tyree recorded another double-double with 13 points and 14 rebounds. The Hawks shot 58.7% from the floor for the game. Denzel Mooney led Lincoln with 22 points and seven rebounds.
Chowan will host Elizabeth City State University on Saturday for the final home game of the 2010-2011 season. Tip-off is set for 5:05pm in the Helms Center. Lincoln will host Bowie State University Saturday at 7:30pm.
