FLORENCE, SC – Chowan University shot 67.2% from the floor, including 70% in the second half, en route to a convincing 92-61 victory over Francis Marion University on Saturday.  Antonio Reddic notched a double-double, with a game-high 24 points and 10 assists.  He also had seven steals and shot 11-15 from the floor.

Mark McGlone nearly totaled a triple-double, tallying 14 points, nine assists, and eight rebounds.  Four Hawks scored in double figures, with Quinton McDuffie notching 14 and Mark Buright netting 12.  McDuffie went 7-10 from the floor, while Buright went 6-7 from the free throw line.

Chowan (2-3), winners of two straight, owned a 34-20 advantage on the glass and forced 24 Patriot turnovers on the night.  For the game, the Hawks had 31 assists, to only 15 for FMU.

“That was one of the best executed games I have ever coached,” said Head Coach Dan DeRose.  “Our guys stayed focused throughout the entire game and it was just an unbelievable performance by everyone.”

For the second straight night, the Hawks came out on fire, both offensively and defensively.  A Reddic fast-break layup with 14:18 on the clock gave Chowan a quick 14-2 lead.  On Reddic's performance, DeRose said, “He has the heart of a champion.  He comes with the attitude every night that it's win or go home.  His determination is unlike any other, and that rubs off on the rest of the guys.  He's just unbelievable; I don't think there is much more to say.”

Francis Marion scored their first field goal of the half, after missing their first four shots, with 14:06 remaining.  Chowan also forced five turnovers over that opening period.

After Chowan opened up a 17 point lead, five straight Evrik Gary points cut the deficit to 12 at 24-12.  Gary led the Patriots on the night with 15 points.  Every time Francis Marion went on a run, though, the Hawks responded right back.

Two Buright free throws gave Chowan their biggest lead of the half, 40-19, with 3:41 left on the clock.  Toward the end of the half, the Patriots went on their biggest run of the game, 8-0, to bring the score to 46-33.  Buright tipped-in an errant shot with one second left to give Chowan a 48-33 advantage at the intermission.

McDuffie nailed a jumper at the 13:56 mark of the second half to give Chowan a 21 point lead at 66-45.  Francis Marion would not come any closer for the remainder of the game.  Two McGlone free throws made the score 80-50 with 7:36 to play, and the Hawks cruised to victory from there.  Chowan went on a 12-4 run over the final 5:23 to seal the win.

In the second half, Chowan shot 21 of 27 from two-point territory, good for a 77.7% clip.  When asked about his team shooting such a high percentage, DeRose commented, “We shot so poorly the first few games of the season because we were relying on outside shots.  Tonight we focused on getting to the basket and taking high percentage shots, and we didn't force anything.”

That focus on getting high percentage shots showed, as Chowan totaled 52 points in the paint for the game.

The Hawks are off until Saturday, November 26th, when they travel to East Carolina University for a 1:00pm tip-off.
