BOWIE, MD – The Chowan University Cross Country team finished in third place at the Bowie State University Challenge on Sunday. The Hawks scored 45 team points, and were narrowly clipped by Washington Adventist University, who totaled 44 points. Bowie State won the meet with 31 points.
Gerlisa Shipman finished in third place with a time of 21:53. Teammates
Lacey Wildeboer and
Stephany Powell were not far behind in sixth and seventh places, respectively. Wildeboer trekked the 5k course in 22:49, while Powell crossed the line in 22:53.
Shaneka Sawyer ran a 27:18, good for 14
th place.
Krystle Shifflett finished in 15
th place, running 28:32.
Angelica Satchell came in 15
th place with a time of 28:54.
Bowie State's Tori Lewis-Johnson won the race, running 21:26.
Chowan is off until the 2011 CIAA Championships on Thursday, October 20
th. The race will be held at the Wake Med Soccer Park in Cary, North Carolina.
