Hawks Win 12th Straight with Shutout of Bowie State

Box Score MURFREESBORO, NC – Chowan University recorded 18 service aces and forced 21 errors as they dismantled the Bowie State University Lady Bulldogs in CIAA action on Sunday, 25-7, 25-13, 25-5.  Chowan moves to 16-3 overall and 10-0 in CIAA play.  They have now won 12 consecutive matches and have shutout six of their last seven opponents.
 
Bowie State (5-15, 2-9 CIAA) had no answer for the Hawks' service game.  Chowan totaled six aces in the first game and opened up an early 10-4 lead.  Chowan then scored the next 12 points to go up 22-4.  Tara Thomalla recorded four aces during the run.
 
The Lady Bulldogs fought back in the second game, keeping it close in the beginning.  BSU pulled within two at 12-10 midway through the game.  Chowan responded, however, by allowing only three more points the rest of the game and won 25-13.
 
The final game was all Chowan, as they raced out to a 15-1 advantage.  Monica Ruffin, Karina Monroe, Megan Sawyer, and Thomalla each had aces in the third game. 
 
Monroe led the Hawks with 11 kills, three blocks, and a .625 hitting percentage.  She entered the match leading the CIAA in hitting percentage.
 
CIAA assist leader Callie Armistead led the Hawks with 14, while Allison Smith added 13.  As a team, the Hawks hit .333 for the match.  Chowan will look to extend their winning streak on Tuesday, October 4th, when they travel to Virginia Union University.  Game time is set for 6:00pm.
