MURFREESBORO –
Shauna Anderson made 21 saves, and Chowan converted on two penalty kicks, but the Hawks fell to visiting Concord University, 5-3 on Saturday. Chowan is now 1-6 on the season, while Concord moves to 3-6.
Chowan got on the board early, as
Alaina Beasley blasted in a penalty kick in the first minute of play. In the third minute, however, Concord responded with a goal of their own to tie the score at one. The Mountain Lions added another goal as time expired in the first period to take a 2-1 advantage at the half.
Canesha Bradford tied the score at two in the 56
th minute with a goal off a
Samira Wilson pass. Concord scored the next two goals to open up a 4-2 lead. Beasley notched her second penalty kick goal of the game in the 76
th minute to bring the Hawks back within one, but Concord would score again to cap the 5-3 victory.
The Mountain Lions finished the contest with 61 shots and 27 shots on goal. Bradford and Beasley each recorded two shots for Chowan. The Hawks will host Lincoln University (PA) on Sunday, October 9
th in their next matchup.
