Box Score MURFREESBORO - Playing in their first CIAA match up of the season, the Chowan University men's basketball team fell with a final score of 71-55 to Johnson C. Smith University in a divisional cross over game. Both teams suffered shooting woes in the first half with the Hawks hitting just 1-11 from beyond the three point arch in the first twenty minutes. Johnson C. Smith took a narrow 31-25 lead into the halftime break and took advantage of their time at the foul line after hitting 23 of 30 from the stripe. Chowan falls to 1-8 overall and 0-1 in the CIAA while the Golden Bulls improve to 6-4 overall and 2-0 in league play.
Chowan suffered from the perimeter tonight, hitting just 3-19 (16%) from three point land and 23-57 (40%) from the floor. JCSU won the battle of the boards after out rebounding the Hawks 48 to 34.
Travis Williams put up 13 points and had five steals while DeAndre Tyree had 11 points and eight boards in the game.
Quinton McDuffie had 10 points before fouling out late in the second half. For JCSU, Trevin Parks had 27 points on a 9-18 shooting performance. Delonta Boyd had 15 points and 11 boards in the game.
Chowan (1-8, 0-1) will host Fayetteville State University on Saturday in their next outing while the Golden Bulls will travel over to Elizabeth City State for a Saturday match up.
