CU Set to Host Fayetteville State in CIAA Doubleheader

CU will host FSU in a CIAA Cross Divisional Game on Saturday
MURFREESBORO - The Chowan University men's and women's basketball teams will host their second CIAA event of the year as the Broncos from Fayetteville State University will make a trip to the Helms Center for a CIAA Cross Divisional doubleheader on Saturday afternoon. The Chowan women's team, sitting at 3-6 overall, enter Saturday's match up having won their last two out of four outings. They are coming off a 57-54 loss to undefeated Johnson C. Smith on Thursday night. The Chowan men are 1-8 overall after suffering a 71-55 loss to the Golden Bulls on Thursday night. Women's Preview...Chowan enters Saturday's game at 3-6 overall and 0-1 in CIAA play after dropping a 57-54 decision to top ranked South Division team, Johnson C. Smith on Thursday night. The Lady Golden Bulls took a six point lead with just over four minutes to play in the game and held the Hawks off for the narrow three point win despite the efforts from CU's Talaya Lynch and Ransheda Jennings. Both Lynch and Jennings gave the Hawks last minute opportunities but time ran out on their team and the Lady Golden Bulls walked away still undefeated at 8-0 at games end. Brittany Nicholson paced the Hawks with 13 points while Lynch hauled in 12 rebounds and put up 9 points. Jennings dished out 8 assists and contributed  11 points in the game. Fayetteville State (1-8, 0-1) is coming off a 65-55 loss to Bowie State on Thursday night in their first CIAA match up of the season. LaQuasha Jordan paced the Lady Broncos with 17 points and  SheQuitia Manning chipped in 14 points in the loss. A YEAR AGO…These two teams met twice a season ago with Chowan losing on their home court 63-54 on January 21st . Jennings had 16 points in that loss for CU. The Hawks bounced back on the road, getting a last second 64-62 road win on February 8th. Taylor Hughes hit a lay up with :01 on the clock after Najah Harris stole an inbounded pass and found an open Hughes in the paint. Lynch had 18 points in that game and Harris finished up with 11 points.


Men's Preview...The Hawks enter Saturday's game with an overall 1-8 overall record and 0-1 CIAA record. They are coming off a 71-55 loss to Johnson C. Smith University on Thursday night. After playing a tight first half, the Golden Bulls pulled away in the second half behind the play of Trevn Parks who dropped 27 points in the game. For Chowan, Travis Williams had 13 points and DeAndre Tyree had  11 points and 8 rebounds. Quinton McDuffie had 10 points in the game. FSU enter today's match up at 4-5 overall and 1-1 in the CIAA. They are coming off a 78-66 loss to Bowie State on Thursday night. John Herrington notched a double-double with 13 points and 13 boards. A YEAR AGO…These two teams met twice last season with Chowan coming away with two divisional wins. Chowan bested the Broncos 69-64 on their home court (1/21) behind Jaleel Nelson's 26 points. Charles Rhodes and Mark Brown put up 17 points each in a 75-59 win at FSU on February 8th. Because of the CIAA's reformation of the North and South Divisions in 2010, these two teams will meet only once this season.
