Box Score 2 MURFREESBORO - The softball team claimed their first-ever CIAA West Division Title after sweeping Johnson C. Smith University in a CIAA doubleheader this afternoon. Chowan won with final game scores of 8-0 and 9-1 to move to 21-20 on the year and 16-0 in CIAA play. The Hawks went 10-0 in the West Division.
Jessica Farmer pitched a one-hit, shut out in game one. She threw five innings and struck out eight Lady Golden Bull batters. Farmer got the run support she needed after her teammates collected 12 hits. They used a six-run second inning to help propel them to the win.
Allie Kolezynski was 2-2 at the plate while
Mindy Byrd was 2-3 with a two RBI double.
Fahren Munro also had two hits and two RBI.
Christie Wright picked up her 6th win of the season after throwing her first collegiate no-hitter. Wright held Johnson C. Smith to no hits and struck out three in the win.
Brenna Thomas was 3-3 with two runs scored while Kolezysnki also had three hits to go with three RBI. Ashley Huffman was 2-3 with four RBI.
The Hawks have one CIAA cross over game remaining as they travel to Virginia State University on Saturday afternoon. They will head to the CIAA Spring Championships April 15-17th.
