Box Score 2 MURFREESBORO - Chowan University's softball team battled out a doubleheader with the Pacers from USC-Aiken on Saturday afternoon but fell in two marathon games 4-3 (10) and 5-2. The Hawks move to 20-19 on the year after the nonconference loss while USC-Aiken improves to 19-18 on the season. The Hawks got solid pitching from their staff in both games but were held to 12 hits over seventeen innings played in the doubleheader.
Chowan got on the board first in the first game with runs in the first and second innings. USC-Aiken scored two runs of their own to tie the game at 2-2 in the top of the 5th inning.
Allie Kolezynski pitched out of two jams in the 6th and 7th innings to help force the international play. Each team failed to in the 8th inning. Each executed a run in the 9th but it was the Pacers who took the win after scoring the game winning run in the top of the 10th for the 4-3 win. Kolezynski, Mindy Bird and Ashley Huffman each had two hits. Bird and Huffman also knocked in a run each. Kolezynski picks up the loss on the mound after coming in for relief of
Christie Wright . Both pitchers threw five innings.
The Pacers out hit the Hawks 9-5 in the 5-2 second game loss. Huffman was the only Hawk to garner multiple hits after going 2-3 at the plate.
Brooke Owen was 1-3 with an RBI single. Jessica Farmer pitched the loss. She started the game and gave up two runs to move to 7-6 on the year.
The Hawks will host Virginia Wesleyan College on Monday in their next outing. First pitch is slated for 3:00pm.
