Hawks Cruise Past West Liberty State

WEST LIBERTY, WV - The softball team picked up two wins over West Liberty State University to gain their 30th and 31st wins of the season. The Hawks cruised to a 9-1 first game victory and 18-4 nightcap win to improve to 31-22 on the year. Third year coach Mandi Balduf has guided her team to back-to-back 30 wins seasons. Ashley Huffman knocked in 10 runs on three hits in the nightcap win, a new program record for runs batted in a single game. 

Chowan collected nine hits in the 9-1 first game win with Christie Wright getting the win on the mound. Wright gave up four hits and struck out four in the game. Mindy Byrd was 2-2 with three RBI and a double in the win while Huffman was 1-2 with three runs knocked in. Kayee McLaughlin had a two run double. 

Huffman paced the Hawks after knocking in 10 of their 18 runs in the nightcap win. Huffman was 2-5 at the plate with a double and a homerun. Tricia Gorman was 3-4 with two doubles and two RBI while Fahren Munro was 2-4 with four runs scored. Allie Kolezynski added two hits and three runs at the plate. She also pitched the last three innings of the game where she gave up four runs on five hits. Wright got the win after throwing the first three innings. 

The Hawks will now await the WVIAC and PSAC Conference winners along with other Atlantic Regional ranked teams for the NCAA DII tournament. The tournament is set to start on May 14th but the location is still to be determined.
