Wright Wins Two as Hawks Sweep Virginia State

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 ETTRICK, VA - Freshman pitcher Christie Wright pitched 14 innings today over two games to help propel her team to a doubleheader sweep of Virginia State University this afternoon. The Hawks, playing in their final CIAA games of the regular season, won with final game scores of 11-3 and 4-1. The nightcap win went nine innings with Wright on the mound for the complete game. 

The Hawks collected 17 hits in the 11-3 win. After Jessica Farmer started the game on the mound, Wright came in to throw the final five innings for her 7th win of the season. She gave up one hit over those five innings and struck out two Trojan batters. Fahren Munro and Tricia Gorman were both perfect at the plate at 4-4. Gorman accounted for four RBI and Munro scored four runs. Ashley Huffman was 3-4 with four RBI in the win. 

The second game of the doubleheader proved to be a thriller. The game remained scoreless through seven regulation innings. Both teams scored a run in the 8th inning in international play. Chowan scored three runs in the top of the 9th after getting three hits, led by Gorman who had an RBI double. Wright tossed the complete game, giving up five hits for her 8th win of the season. Allie Kolezynski was 3-5 to lead Chowan offensively. 

The Hawks improve to 24-21 on the year and 18-0 in CIAA play. They wrapped up CIAA play today and clinched the CIAA West Division Title on Wednesday with a sweep of Johnson C. Smith. They will travel to Mount Olive College on Monday for a nonconference match up before heading to Petersburg on Thursday to start the CIAA Spring Championships.
