Softball Splits with Davis & Elkins

MURFREESBORO - The softball team split a non-conference doubleheader with Davis & Elkins College this afternoon. After suffering a 6-5 extra innings loss in the first game of the twinbill, the Hawks recovered to win the nightcap 4-2. The Hawks snapped a nine-game losing streak with today's game two win.

The Hawks trailed 3-0 heading into the bottom of the 5th inning. With two outs, the Hawks rallied to score two runs on RBI singles by Tricia Gorman and Ashley Huffman. In their final at-bat of the game, Brooke Owen scored Megan Bass from third to tie the game at 3-3 and force international play. Davis & Elkins scored three runs in the top of the 8th inning to take a 6-3 lead over Chowan. The Hawks rallied to score two runs in the bottom of the 8th but their rally came to an end just a run shy at 6-5. Allie Kolezynski , Ashley Huffman , and Fahren Munro each collected two hits while Gorman was 3-5 with an RBI. Kolezynski picked up the loss on the mound after coming in for relief of Christie Wright . Kolezynski pitched 4.2 innings, giving up three runs on three hits and striking out two batters. 

Chowan scored three runs in the second inning of the nightcap game to get on top of the Senators early and added their fourth run in the 6th inning for the 4-2 win. Jessica Farmer pitched her third win of the season after throwing a complete game. She gave up five hits and struck out five in the win. Mindy Byrd was 2-3 with an RBI while Huffman also collected two hits. 

The Hawks will take off Sunday before heading into back-to-back playing dates on Monday and Tuesday with Glenville State and Livingstone College.
