Box Score 2 MURFREESBORO - The softball team fell to 3-13 on the season after dropping a doubleheader to West Chester University this afternoon. The Hawks attempted a late comeback in the first of two games played but fell just short with an 8-7 loss. They overcame a three-run deficit in the nightcap but gave up late inning runs to drop the second game with a 7-4 final score.
Chowan collected 10 hits in the first game but left nine runners on base. After trailing 3-0 heading into the bottom of the 2nd inning, Chowan scored two runs to make the score 3-2.
Mindy Byrd started the inning with a double down the left field line. Kaytee McLaughlin doubled in the left center field gap to score Byrd. McLaughlin stole third and then later scored on a wild pitch to cut into the lead 3-2. Ashley Huffman singled in
Allie Kolezynski in the 3rd inning to tie the game at 3-3.
Trailing 8-4 with one final at-bat, the Hawks put together three runs on four hits in the 7th but were stopped short of a full comeback.
Christie Wright pitched the loss, giving up eight hits and striking out six batters. Byrd finished the game 3-4 while Huffman collected two hits.
The Hawks were held to three hits in the nightcap loss. They scored runs on a
Melissa Woodrum solo homerun and a fielders choice situation. Woodrum accounted for two of Chowan's runs.
The Hawks will host Davis & Elkins College tomorrow at 12:00pm in a doubleheader.
