Taylor Hughes came through in a big way tonight for the Hawks after she hit a buzzer beating lay up to give her team a 64-62 win over Fayetteville State University. Tonight's win is the first West Divison win for the Hawks and only the first divisional loss for the division leading Lady Broncos. For the third straight game,
Talaya Lynch led the team in scoring with 18 points. Hughes scored five points in the game, but the last two were the most pivotal.
Chowan's win tonight ended a six-game losing skid and mark's only the second time that Fayetteville State (14-7, 10-5, 4-1) have been beaten on their home court. The Lady Broncos still sit atop the West Division at 4-1 after tonights win. Chowan improves their overall record to 8-13, 5-11, and 1-5.
Talaya Lynch posted 18 points for Chowan while
Najah Harris came in with 11 points. She drove the lane in the final seconds to find an open Hughes under the basket and was credited with the game-winning assist. Chowan shot 38% (21-55) from the floor while FSU hit for 42% (22-52).
The Hawks will travel to Johnson C. Smith University on Thursday night in a CIAA West Division match up. The Lady Golden Bulls currently sit in 3rd place in the division. Tip off is at 7:00pm in Charlotte.
