Fairmont State Edges Hawks at Home

Box Score MURFREESBORO - The baseball team fell to 2-3 on the year after dropping a 10-9 decision to Fairmont State University this afternoon. The Hawks took yesterday's doubleheader 9-2 and 14-4 but the Falcons held Chowan to just seven hits over nine innings today to take the win. Fairmont State improves to 1-2 after today's game. 

The Falcons exploded for nine runs in the top of the 6th inning to them a 10-5 lead. Zac Caito cleared the bases on a single and a throwing error and put Chowan within striking distance at 10-9. The Hawks knocked on the door in their final two at-bats but failed to put any runners across the plate. 

Errors also proved to be costly for the Hawks with six on the day. John Atkins picked up the loss on the mound after giving up eight hits and seven runs, five of which were earned. Will Medlin and Robert Weaver pitched in relief of Atkins before Andrew Hales came in to toss the final three innings. Hales pitched well, allowing just two hits while striking out four Falcon batters. 

John Kellett was 2-5 with a triple and two runs scored while Caito and Nate Mitchell also collected two hits. 

Chowan will travel to Saint Andrews College on Tuesday in their next outing. They will return to Hawkins Field for a four-game series with Indiana University -PA on Saturdy and Sunday.
