Box Score 2 MURFREESBORO - In two marathon games, the Hawks battled out a 10-9 and 5-4 doubleheader sweep against Mount Olive College this afternoon. Chowan improves to 3-5 after today's twinbill victory. The pounded out 14 hits over two games.
After trailing 1-0 in the bottom of the first inning in the opening game,
Tricia Gorman came up and knocked a bases loaded homerun to give her team a 5-1 lead. Mount Olive took advantage of two errors in the field and three hits to put up four runs in the top of the third innning to gain a one run, 6-5 advantage. The Hawks scored three runs over their next three at-bats to take a 9-7 lead but the Trojans battled back in the top of the seventh inning to tie game at 9-9. In their last at-bat,
Brooke Owen lined a single to right field to score
Fahren Munro from third base and take the 10-9 win.
Allie Kolezynski ended the game 2-3 with a run scored and an RBI while Ashley Huffman also collected two hits in the win.
Christie Wright picked up the win in relief of Kolezynski. She tossed the final two innings, giving up just one hit in seven batters faced.
Jessica Farmer went six innings striking out two batters for the win. She gave up six hits and four runs for her second win of the season. The Hawks and Trojans were knotted at 4-4 heading into the final inning of game when Ashley Huffman hit a ball that was booted on the infield. That error scored Kolezynski from third base for the 5-4 win.
Chowan collected seven hits in the nightcap win with
Alex Allen going 2-3 with an RBI and Gorman going 2-2.
Melissa Woodrum was 1-4 with a three RBI in the win.
Chowan picked up their first home wins of the season today and improve to 3-5. Mount Olive falls to 0-6 after today's games.
Chowan will travel to UNC-Pembroke on Saturday for a 3:00pm non-conference doubleheader.
