MURFREESBORO - It was a bitter sweet night at the Helms Center as the Hawks played tribute to seniors
Tameka Christopher and Damicka McMahan but also celebrated life with the annual WBCA PinkZone game. With the inside of the Helms donned in PINK, Chowan sadly fell to the Lady Falcons from Saint Augustine's College 84-75 in a toughly fought battle.
Najah Harris poured in a game-high 22 points in the effort and three of her teammates also posted double digits on the Hawks final home game of the season.
The Hawks battled in the second half after trailing by nine points at the half.
Najah Harris opened the second half of play by burying a three pointer to cut the Lady Falcon lead 36-30. Saint Augustine's spread their lead to as many as 11 points with just under sixteen minutes to play but the Hawks didn't go away. Key three pointers by
Tameka Christopher down the stretch would pull Chowan within striking distance. One of those three pointers came at the 9:25 mark cut the Lady Falcon lead to 58-59. After a stop on the defensive end, Chowan's
Ransheda Jennings hit a lay up to take the team's first lead of the second half at 60-59. Over the next four minutes the two teams exchanged basket for basket, but the Lady Falcons were too tough to handle on the blocks for Chowan, and they pulled away with the nine point victory.
Along with Harris' 22 points, five assists, two blocks, and two steals, Christopher went out on senior night with 12 points, all from beyond the three point arch. Jennings came off the bench to score 12 points and get four steals while
Talaya Lynch had 11 points and three assists.
For Saint Augustines, LeKeisha White posted 20 points, six rebounds, and six assists and Eliezer Iceson notched a double-double with 12 points and 17 rebounds.
The Hawks fall to 9-16 overall and 6-13 in the CIAA. Saint Augustine's moves to 16-9 overall and 12-6 in the CIAA. Chowan travels to Shaw on Saturday in their next outing.
