Box Score MURFREESBORO - Jaleel Nelson drained 25 points as the Hawks posted a 72-62 win over divisional rival, Saint Augustine's College tonight. The Hawks win snapped a 12 game win streak for the Falcons. It was a lights out night for Nelson, who along with Nate Walchuk and Lando Morrison, was recognized before the game playing in their final home game wearing the Chowan Blue and White. Nelson led all scorers in the game.
The Hawks hit 47% from the floor, including 11 three pointers.
Mark Brown hit 3-6 from beyond the arch and ended the night with 13 points while Walchuk also hit for three trey's. Morrison scored nine points and grabbed eight rebounds in the win.
Chowan's win tonight improves their overall record to 16-8 and 12-6 in the CIAA. They move to 5-3 in the CIAA West and gave the divisional leading Falcons their only loss in the division to this point. Saint Augustine's was led by Chris Jordan with 12 points. They move to 21-4 overall, 15-3 in the league, and 7-1 in the CIAA West.
The Hawks remain in second place in the CIAA West behind the Falcons. They will travel to Johnson C. Smith on Thursday, February 18th in their next outing. That tip is set for 7:00pm in Charlotte at Brayboy on the campus of Johnson C. Smith. They round out the season at Shaw on Saturday in a 7:30pm match up.
