MURFREESBORO - The women's basketball team won their third game in as many tries after beating the Lady Vikings from Elizabeth City State University 64-51 in CIAA cross divisional play tonight. The Hawks shot 41% from the floor and scored 26 points off of Lady Viking turnovers in the win. CU's Ransheda Jennings continues to shine as she dropped 19 points in the win. Jennings and the Hawks even their record at 6-6 overall and 4-4 in league play after tonight's win.
The Hawks got up by as many as 17 points in the second half and went on to the 13 point victory. This is Chowan's first win over the Elizabeth City State University in series history (2006). Joining Jennings in double figures tonight was Naomi Walters who drained 14 points on 5-6 from the floor. She was also perfect at the foul line at 3-3. Talaya Lynch scored 11 points, had six steals, and five rebounds in the win.
Chowan held the Lady Vikings to 31% shooting (17-55), including 0-6 from beyond the three point arch. Tonight's win moves Chowan to 6-6 overall and 4-4 in the CIAA. Elizabeth City State falls to 6-4 overall and 2-4 in CIAA play. The Hawks will travel to Bowie State University on Saturday for a 5:30pm tip off and follow that up with a Monday night match up at Lincoln University. The Lady Vikings will host Johnson C. Smith University on Saturday in their next outing.
