Men Roll Against Elizabeth City State

Nelson Drains 31 Points in Win

Nelson dropped 31 points in win tonight
Box Score MURFREESBORO - Chowan's Jaleel Nelson drained 31 points as the Hawks rolled to a 63-54 win over Elizabeth City State University in CIAA cross divisional play tonight. Nelson was honored prior to tip off for becoming the 7th player in program history to net 1,000 or more career points. He showed tonight just how he became a member of that short listed club after dropping a season high 31 points. Chowan has won back-to-back CIAA cross over games and improve to 6-4 overall and 5-2 in league play. Elizabeth City State falls to 6-5 on the year and 2-4 in the CIAA.

The Vikings took a narrow two point lead into halftime but Chowan took advantage of their time at the foul line in the second half to gain and maintain a lead. As a team, the Hawks hit 28-36 from the line, including Nelson who scored 17 of his 31 points from the foul line. Lando Morrison helped to give Chowan an edge on the battle of the board with 12 of the team's 45 total rebounds. He also chipped in 12 points in the win. Mark Brown contributed 12 points and had eight rebounds in the win.

The Hawks shot just 34% from the floor, hitting 17-50 from the field while the Vikings hit just 29% (18-62) of their total shots taken.

The Hawks will hit the road for four straight games with stops at Bowie State on Saturday and Lincoln on Monday. They will return to the Helms Center on January 21st to host Fayetteville State University in a 7:30pm match up.
