Box Score ELIZABETH CITY, NC - The CIAA West's top team is on a roll after claiming their 8th win in a row tonight. Chowan beat Elilzabeth City State 86-60 in CIAA cross over action to remain unbeaten in the month of January and sit atop the league's West Division at 8-2, 1-0. After tonight's decisive victory Chowan improves to 12-4 on the year. All five starters scored in double figures in the game as the Hawks hit 50% from the field.
Chowan rolled to a 46-28 halftime lead and stayed hot through the second half.
Mark Brown paced all scorers tonight with 23 points. He also had 11 rebounds in the win. Chowan won the battle of the boards with 41 rebounds to the Vikings 26 rebounds. They also held them to 39% shooting on their home court.
Nate Walchuk hit for 16 points, including draining five three pointers.
Lando Morrison chipped in 14 points and
Jaleel Nelson had 13 points, six assists, and eight rebounds.
The Vikings fall to 9-8 overall and 4-7 in the CIAA.
The Hawks have won their last eight games and are unbeaten in the month of January. Their last loss came against Catawba on 12/30/09. Chowan sits atop of the CIAA West Division with a 8-2 and 1-0 record. Updated CIAA standings will be available on Monday and can be found at www.theciaa.com.
The Hawks will travel to Saint Pauls College on Monday, January 25th in their next outing. Tip off is set for 7:30pm at Brunswick Senior High School in Lawrenceville, Virginia.
