MURFREESBORO - The Fayetteville State University Lady Broncos handed Chowan a tough 63-54 loss at home tonight, dropping them to 7-9 on the year. In a game that featured five lead changes and five tie scores, it was the Lady Broncos who held on in the final minutes to edge Chowan and improve their record to 10-4.
The Hawks were out rebounded 49 to 29 in the game with 22 of those total rebounds coming under the offensive glass for FSU. Chowan also struggled from the floor, hitting just 2-18 from beyond the three point arch in the game. They shot 34% (18-53) in the game while Fayetteville State mananged to hit 37% (21-57) from the field.
Chowan was paced by leading scorer
Ransheda Jennings who hit for 16 points. She also had three steals in the loss. Both
Naomi Walters and
Najah Harris chipped in 11 points to join Jennings in double figures. Harris also had five steals and four assists.
Fayetteville State got 17 points from LaQuasha Jordan and 16 from Deja Middleton. Middleton also grabbed 14 rebounds for the Lady Broncos.
The Hawks move to 0-2 in the CIAA West and 4-6 in the overall CIAA standings. Fayetteville State improves to 6-2 in the CIAA and 1-0 in the CIAA West.
Chowan will travel to Elizabeth City State University on Saturday in their next match up. Tip off will be at 5:30pm.
