Box Score MURFREESBORO - Chowan's Jaleel Nelson poured in 26 points as the Hawks defeated Fayetteville State University 69-64 in CIAA basketball action tonight. The Hawks came from behind to beat the Broncos in the toughly fought game. The Hawks got key free throws down the stretch to help keep Fayetteville State at bay over the final minute and help propel them to the victory. Tonight's win marks the 8th consecutive win for Chowan and they remain unbeaten in the month of January. 
After trailing most of the game, the Hawks took their first lead at the 7:57 mark of the second period when Nelson hit an outside jumper to make it 52-50. The Broncos' Benjamin Davis bought his team back to the lead when he scored at the 1:03 mark off a jumper in the paint. 
Mark Brown was fouled on the Hawks' ensuing possession, sending him to the line where he drained two shots and gave his team a one point lead at 65-64.

Nate Walchuk and Nelson over the final :19 was all the team needed to ice the game and give Chowan their first CIAA West Division win. 
Chowan improves to 11-4 on the year, 7-2 in the CIAA, and 1-0 in the CIAA West. Fayetteville State falls to 3-10 overall, 1-7 in the league, and 0-1 in the CIAA West. 
The Hawks will travel to Elizabeth City State University on Saturday in their next outing. Tip off is set for 7:30pm.
