MURFREESBORO - Five Chowan Hawks scored in double figures tonight as they rolled to a 81-57 victory over Lincoln University. Tonight's win marks the first win for the women's basketball team this season. Chowan's defense combined for 16 total steals while tonight's team point total of 81 points is their highest point total of the season.
Ransheeda Jennings came off the bench to power the Hawks with 17 points and eight rebounds. She led all scorers in the game after playing in just 24 minutes. Chowan won the battle of the boards with a season-high 50 rebounds to Lincoln's 37 total rebounds. The Hawks shot 39% (24-62) from the floor in the game and held the Lady Lions to hitting 17-51 from the field.
Talaya Lynch scored 16 points, grabbed six rebounds, and had four steals in the win.
Naomi Walters scored 14 points and was 2-3 from beyond the three point arch in the game. She also had four steals and four rebounds.
Danielle Coleman and
Najah Harris chipped in 12 and 11 points respectively. Harris also dished out seven assists in the Hawks first season win.
Chowan improves to 1-2 overall while Lincoln falls to 1-3 on the year. Chowan will travel to Belmont-Abbey College on November 28th in their next outing.
