Box Score MURFREESBORO - The football dropped their final game of the season after faltering 28-18 to Saint Augustine's College this afternoon. The Hawks should finish in 4th place in the CIAA Western Division with a 2-8, 2-5 overall record. The Falcons walk away in 3rd place in the league with today's win. CJ Westler felt the pressure all afternoon from Saint Augustine's defensive line. He scrambled today, putting up good numbers but it was Hawks who would get the loss in the end.
The Falcons got on the board first in the game as they scored on their opening drive on an 80 yard pass from Gerald Marshall to Tyron Laughinghouse. With a 7-0 the Falcons defense kept
CJ Westler and Hawks' offense off balance until the final minute of the first half. Westler rolled out to find an open
Robert Holland from nine yards out for the Hawks first score. After a failed point after by the Hawks, the Falcons took a 7-6 lead into the halftime period.
Marcus Johnson returned an interception for 80 yards to paydirt to pull within two points of the Falcons at 14-12. St. Aug's scored twice before Chowan could answer with 8:09 to play in the game. Westler found Holland again in the corner of the endzone to give the Hawks another score but the damage was done and the Hawks couldn't recover. They fell with the final score of 28-18.
The Hawks were held to their lowest point total of the season in the game today. The Falcons rolled up 504 yards of offense on 64 plays while Chowan totaled 399 yards on the day. Westler ended the day with 269 yards passing on 25 completions. He tossed two touchdowns but had four interceptions. He also led the ground attack with 59 yards rushing. Holland ended the day with 14 catches for 147 yards and two scores.
Defensively Jackey Moore had a team-high 6.5 tackles, followed by Greg Palmer who also had 6.5 tackles. He had two tackles for a loss. Andrea DeWeese had six tackles and 1.5 of those were for a loss. Marcus Brown and Johnson each had two interceptions for Chowan.
For the Falcons, Marcus Crump had seven tackles, three sacks, and 4.5 tackles for a loss. They end the year at 4-6 overall and 4-3 in the CIAA.
