MURFREESBORO - The softball team moved to 3-1 on the year after sweeping Virginia State at home this afternoon. The Hawks won the first game 9-1 and the nightcap 6-3.
Chowan collected 23 hits in the doubleheader while holding seven hits in the games. Shellie Wimpey pitched a one-hitter in the first game to pick up the win. She struck out 9 Trojan batters in the win while walking four. Kaytee McLaughlin continued to hit for her team, finishing game one with 3 hits in 4 at-bats with 2 runs scored and 2 RBI. Wimpey, Nichole Young, and Melissa Woodrum each had two hits in the game.
Sara Teh moved to 2-0 on the mound after pitching the second game win. Teh struck out 8 batters and walked 4 in the game. McLaughlin and Young had two hits in the nightcap win.
Chowan, now 3-1, will host UNC Pembroke on Wednesday at 2:00pm.
