Box Score MURFREESBORO - The Hawks improved to 6-9 on the season after handing Allen University (SC) a 77-60 loss this afternoon in the Helms Center. The Hawks shot 50% from the floor and grabbed 39 rebounds in the win.
After taking a 35-29 lead into halftime, the Hawks got up by as many as 10 points in the first minutes of play of the second period. Allen fought back to tie the game at 46-46 at the 12:40 mark of the second period but the home standing Hawks went on a 15-4 run over the next six minutes of play to stretch their lead and put the game out of reach from the visiting Yellow Jackets.
Chowan's Montino Williams, who started in his first game of the season, paced Chowan with 26 points on a 10 of 15 shooting performance. The junior also grabbed 4 rebounds and dished out 2 assists in the win. Trayvon Lathan scored 20 points and grabbed 10 rebounds. The senior is now 33 points away from becoming the program's all-time leading scorer. Along with his double-double performance, Lathan had 3 assists and was 4-5 from the foul line. Freshman Jaleel Nelson joined Williams and Lathan in double-figures with 12 points, 5 rebounds, and 2 assists.
Chowan shot 50% from the floor in the game, hitting 30 out 50 shots taken in the game. They also dominated the boards, out rebounding the Yellow Jackets 39 to 22 in forty minutes of play.
