MURFREESBORO - The Braves moved to 10-7 overall and 4-3 in the conference after an exciting win over Ferrum College in Dixie Conference basketball action this afternoon. The Panthers and the Braves made it an exciting event to watch as the two teams exchanged baskets until the 7:34 mark in the first period when Nicole Mehalick hit one of her two three-point shots in the period to pull ahead 22-19. Mehalick would hammer down her second trey just 30 seconds later to give the Braves a 6 point advantage with just over 7:00 remaining in the half.
Amanda Murray found the zone after hitting 3 of 4 treys in the first period to help the Braves to a 38-33 halftime lead. The Braves took lead in the second half, up by as much as 7 points. The Panthers were not done scoring yet when at the 7:07 mark Natasha Chapman bucketed a trey to give the Panthers the edge 60-58. Notched up at 61 apiece with 5:50 remaining. The Braves found themselves fighting to get the lead back after the panthers went up by 3 points with just under 4 minutes to go. Senior
Megan Brenegan closed the gap by 1 when she hit two free throws with just over 3 minutes to go. A turnover by Ferrum gave the Braves the ball with 2:31 left on the clock.
Ashley Winslow drove the lane for an easy lay-up and regained the lead for the Braves 65-64. Tara Toland answered for the Panthers when she netted a jumper to give the Panthers the lead 66-65. With the shot clock winding down, point guard Erin Ward netted a key trey that would give the Braves the lead and the ultimate win.
Ashley Winslow led all scorers with 20 points and grabbed 12 rebounds, her seventh double-double of the season.
Amanda Murray contributed 13 and Erin Ward netted 12 points and grabbed 7 rebounds. For the Panthers, Tanisha Durham scored 18 points and had 4 steals while Tara Toland contributed 14 points. The Braves shot 45% from the floor and 52% from beyond the three-point arch in the win.
