Jaclyn (Jackie) Buchanan enters her third season as head coach of the Chowan Volleyball program.
In the first season within the Conference Carolinas, Chowan finished with a 5-21 overall mark and 1-15 record in Conference Carolinas action.
During the 2018 season, the Hawks finished with an 11-17 overall record and an 11-6 mark in the CIAA to finish third in the CIAA Northern Division.
Jackie comes to Chowan following a four year stint as an assistant coach with Fairmont State. During her tenure with the Fighting Falcons, Buchanan helped the team produce a 91-40 overall record and four straight 20+ win seasons.
Buchanan helped the Fighting Falcons to their first NCAA tournament bid in over a decade along with three straight Mountain East Conference Tournament Championship Match appearance. Jackie helped develop a D2CCA All-American Honorable Mention along with several MEC All-Conference selections.
Prior to becoming an assistant at FSU, Buchanan served as the head volleyball coach and assistant softball coach at West Virginia Tech for two seasons. At West Virginia Tech, Buchanan improved the Golden Bears’ win total each season.
Before heading to West Virginia Tech, she spent the previous four years (2008-2012) coaching high school volleyball, most recently at Greenville High School in South Carolina.
Buchanan served stints at Lander University and Limestone College as an assistant coach and helped lead those programs to conference championships.
During the 2004-05 season, Buchanan was the Head Volleyball/Softball Coach at Union College. Under her guidance, the volleyball team had a record of 15-19 overall and a 12-8 mark in league play.
Buchanan’s coaching career began in 2002 at her alma mater (Ohio State-Newark), helping the volleyball team to a 15-7 record as the team’s assistant coach.
Buchanan has also coached Junior Olympic Club Volleyball on the national and regional level and has experience organizing and assisting with volleyball camps.
Jackie earned her bachelor’s degree from Ohio State University in 2002 and obtained a master’s in K-12 education at Union College in 2005. Buchanan was a three-year standout at Ohio State University-Newark, where she earned all-conference honors as a defensive specialist.
