Andrew Sydow enters his first season as the Assistant Volleyball Coach for Chowan.
Andrew comes to Chowan after spending a season as a volunteer assistant at Bowling Green State University. Sydow worked primarily with middle blockers, as his efforts helped the team earn a MAC All-Freshman selection and two MAC defensive Player of the Week selections. The middle blockers performed at the top of the MAC conference with 1.22 blocks per set and improved existing statistics by 50 percent. During his time with Bowling Green, the Falcons were named MAC Regular Season Co-Champions and MAC East Division Co-Champions.
In addition to working at Bowling Green, Sydow gained extensive knowledge working team camps such as: North Carolina, Virginia Tech, and Ohio State. Sydow was the assistant coach for the Eastern Elite 15U National Team in Goldsboro, N.C.
Sydow was a four-year member of the University of Mount Olive Men’s Volleyball program. While at UMO, Andrew was named 2015 Conference Carolinas All-Conference Second Team, on the 2016 Off the Block Middle Blocker of the Year Watch List, selected Off the Block National Offensive Player of the Night. Sydow holds the school record for most blocks in a single match (12).
Off the court, Sydow was a Presidential scholar, chess club historian, member of the UMO Leadership program, and a FCA leader. Andrew graduated from Mount Olive in 2017 with a bachelor’s degree in Recreation and Leisure with an emphasis in Sport Management and possesses a minor in coaching.
Andrew is an AVCA member and USAV certified coach.
