ROME, GA – The Chowan University women's soccer team secured a 6-3 Conference Carolinas road victory over Shorter University on Saturday afternoon at Ben Brady Field.
Shorter struck twice within the opening 12 minutes to take an early 2-0 advantage, but Chowan quickly responded. Ellis Baxter put the Hawks on the board in the 18th minute before Amy Cotton found the back of the net just four minutes later off an assist from Riley Donnelly to even the match at 2-2 heading into halftime.
Shorter regained the lead on a penalty kick in the 55th minute, but Chowan took control from there, scoring four unanswered goals to close out the match. Cotton recorded her second goal of the day in the 63rd minute to level the score before Meah Cuddihy struck twice in a span of less than five minutes to give Chowan its first lead of the match. Laura Hulme capped the offensive surge with a penalty-kick goal in the 83rd minute to secure the game.
Cotton and Cuddihy each finished with two goals as the Hawks found their second conference victory of the season.

Cotton led the offensive effort with two goals while placing all four of her shots on frame. Cuddihy also recorded a two-goal performance, finishing with three shots, all of which were on goal.
Hulme added a goal while placing all four of her shots on target, and Baxter finished with one goal on her lone shot of the match. Addisen Palmer and Riley Donnelly each recorded an assist to round out Chowan's offensive production.
Kyle Smith and Madison Richardson shared time in goal for the Hawks, combining for three saves in the victory.
